Objectives

The objective of this project was to revamp the 2024 New Hire Education presentation for the Shelby County Government's Human Resources Department, making it more engaging and aligned with the county's branding. The primary goals were to create an intro animation that reflected the county's mission of caring for others, integrate images from their benefits guides, and enhance overall visual appeal.

Client Background:

With a population exceeding 935,000 residents and serving as a destination for millions of visitors annually, the Shelby County Government plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of its community members.

Committed to excellence, inclusivity, and innovation, Shelby County Government endeavors to recruit and retain a diverse workforce, fostering an environment conducive to professional growth and well-being. Employees are encouraged to leverage their unique skill sets and backgrounds, including those with qualifying military experience, to uphold the county's mission of promoting health, safety, and environmental sustainability. As an equal opportunity employer, Shelby County Government values diversity at all levels, recognizing the strength that arises from a multitude of perspectives and experiences.

Design Process:

Research & Ideation:

Creation:

The creation phase began with receiving a storyboard for the full new hire video that this animation would be for. I made note of the branding of the storyboard and what graphic elements were used so I could incorporate those into the introduction animation. I proceeded to create digital assets and animations using Adobe After Effects, and then brought it into Premiere Pro to add music and adjust audio.

Animation:

The animation incorporated elements of Shelby County's branding, including colors, typography, and logo. It featured a sequence that showcased the county's commitment to caring for its employees and community, using imagery from their benefits guides to illustrate the comprehensive support offered to new hires.

Before diving into the design process, thorough research was conducted to understand Shelby County's branding guidelines, mission statement, and values. This involved studying existing materials such as the county's website, benefit guides, and previous presentations. Clarification was also received by the client on which branding to use for this project. Under mayor Lee Harris, Shelby County Government undergone a recent rebranding campaign. All materials during this phase must use their special “Our Next Era” branding.

During the ideation phase, brainstorming sessions were held to generate ideas for the intro animation. Concepts were developed to ensure that the animation would not only capture the essence of Shelby County's mission but also resonate with new hires, providing them with a warm welcome and a sense of belonging.

Results:

The final product was a dynamic and visually compelling intro animation that effectively captured the essence of Shelby County's mission and values. This introduction can be brought into any editing program and be transitioned into any video Shelby County does regarding their Human Resources Department.

The animation seamlessly integrated with the New Hire Education presentation, setting a positive tone for incoming employees and reinforcing the county's commitment to their well-being.

Success of the Project:

The success of the project was evident in several ways:

1. Engagement: The new intro animation significantly increased engagement among current employees and new hires, capturing their attention from the moment they began the presentation.

2. Brand Alignment: The animation successfully aligned with Shelby County's branding guidelines, ensuring consistency across all communication channels.

3. Positive Feedback: Feedback from both new hires and existing employees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the creative and informative introduction.

Overall, the Shelby County New Hire Video Introduction project achieved its objectives of enhancing engagement, aligning with the county's branding, and improving the onboarding experience for new employees.
